Improved communications make a harvest with a difference at ‘Willaroo’

Willaroo‘ is a 16,500 ha property in northern NSW operated by Warakirri Cropping, and the farm has just wrapped up a harvest unlike any before. The 2024 harvest for ‘Willaroo’ has been different from the past, thanks to resilient on-farm connectivity that transformed operations.

Previously, ‘Willaroo’ struggled with poor communications coverage across 80% of its land. Now, a bespoke connectivity tech stack has bridged the gap with a number of technologies including multiple CommsXtends, Starlink Mobility (Satellite on the Move), Starlink mini devices and dynamic SIMs. These technologies, deployed across headers, sprayers, utes and the SwarmFarm robot, have enabled real-time data flows to optimise farming systems and increase efficiency during harvest.

The seamless connectivity has allowed the successful integration of CropScan grain analysis and Farmwave harvest vision systems to detect yield losses, whilst allowing effective communication all over the farm, streamlining logistics through improved fleet coordination and on-the-go decision-making during the busy harvest period.

The 2024 harvest at ‘Willaroo’ is proof that robust connectivity is the key to enabling digital agriculture. Assistant Farm Manager at ‘Willaroo’, Will Rogers, discusses the benefits of the change in this video.

ACTFA thanks Connected Farms for providing this video and notes. Their dedication to providing connectivity continues to enable digital agriculture.
